Yes, You can use a PCI graphic card in a empty PCI slot. But why do that when AGP is faster.

PCIe not to be confused with PCIx is a newer type of bus(slot) that has faster bus speeds then AGP and regular PCI thus cards are now made for the PCIe bus.

As for the ram I don't think so because the 266 is DDR speed(kinda). You need to make sure that the ram you have now is DDR 266 before you buy that stick. You can however, go to sites like crucial.com and type in the make/model of your computer and get a list of compatible memory sticks.

Edit* Yes, 1.3v and the 3.3v are voltages levels for the AGP card. You will have to look at the board specifications to see if the slot can either handle 1.3v or 3.3v cards. AGP uses 2x 4x 8x to describe the speed of the card. 8x is the fastest. However your board must support the same speed as the card in order for it to work. You should find out what speed your AGP slot is.

Edit* For your ram question I'm 75% sure that the card you was given will work with the one you got now. What I'm worried about is the the size difference in the memory and if it will cause problems. Sometime they have to be paired and I don't know if that is ture for DDR.I have used a 128 Sdram (not ddr) with a 512 sdram (not ddr) and it worked out great.

As for the kind of mother board you have I can't seem to find the right specifications because there seems to be a couple other models here is what I got. http://h10061.www1.hp.com/ccsearch/search?pname=&qry=HP+Compaq+MS-6577&ctry=us&lc=en&dlc=en&mode=lz&tmv=0&method=prodFinder&pid=&spid=&opname=&pname_desc=&ptype=&stype=fs&contextual_lname=&spname=&temp_hql=&search=0&submit.x=0&submit.y=0 can you tell me a little bit more about your computer model/make so I can look.

PCI is an old slot used for a lot of things such as network cards, modems and some basic graphics cards. It is best to not use this for graphics cards if possible.

AGP is a graphics card port that is better than PCI get an AGP card rather than PCI.

PCI express is now taking over from AGP, think it is just used for graphics cards but I don't know if it also takes over from the older PCI.

Looks like your computer doesn't support PCIe.

As to which memory you can use I'd suggest going to http://www.crucial.com and running the system scan this will tell you what memory your PC can take and how much. It will also tell you more about which graphics cars you can use.

Sounds like you got some good advice. PCI Express was developed by INTEL. It works on a separate buss system that PCI. PCI 16 is the latest and greatest for Video. It has a 16 bit wide buss as opposed to the 8 bit buss for PCI; hence the moniker. There are only a couple of boards that have both the AGP and the PCI 16.

Enjoy

Sounds like it has only PCI and AGP slots. PCI express if a faster version of PCI. They are not compatible. Yes the ram is the same, but you shouldn't mix brands or speeds for best results. Yes your computer would support a PCI Graphics card. If you are not sure look up your motherboard model on the internet and it will tell you what ports you have.

From what you discribed no it won't take a pci-e card. You could use an agp card OR a pci graphics card but pci-e is a different deal.

The only surefire way to get the right ram for your pc is to pull a stick and take it to your local computer shop to order more.

i'm and could constantly be a toddler in some aspects of my existence. I purposely carry onto a number of my toddler-like traits and others are stubbornly inborn into me. as an occasion, while it is composed of my interest and amazement at some issues different could generally over-look or locate mundane, I carry the comparable enthusiasm and ask your self in those issues that my seven-year-previous cousin does. maximum folk assume i'm “”enjoying fascinated” to assuage her or to humor her, yet in fact we the two are uncomplicated and actually serious approximately lots of the flaws interior the international. I bear in mind going to the aquarium and in basic terms thoroughly surprised at each and all the wondrous sea existence and creatures our international has. My little cousin and that i've got been thoroughly enthralled interior the full adventure (and it become neither of our first cases going. lol). on the comparable time, my inner toddler can come out in extremely much less flattering cases as properly, alongside with while i'm disillusioned or have been harm badly by applying somebody I look after. In those cases, i will become very obdurate, reclusive, and immature. All of those traits i could gladly want to surrender – yet actual and completely they're aside of who i'm, and that i as properly as those around me have widespread and discovered this. Cheers!
