Against, though only for personal reasons. I do not feel that I could truly be as loving to more than one spouse at the same time. I would always favor one over another, and that wouldn't be fair to the other spouses.

If someone could love and make all their spouses feel equally loved and cared for, treat them all with respect, and treat them all with equals, I would see no harm in multiple husbands/wives.

I'm against it unless there are extreme circumstances (like a war where widows and orphans are left so the men take more wives to support those destitute women).

Why do I reject polygamy?
1. It undermines the female's equality. The man can have a harem of doting women, but he has all the power.

2. Most days not even one man and woman can care for their children, how could one man care for as many children that will come about due to all of his relationships? It's an automatic drain on our social programs like welfare. Give welfare to people who deserve it, not those who actively pursue a lifestyle that would obviously lead to welfare.

3. The way it's practiced especially in Utah is horrendous. Forced marriages, incest, and rape are found in high degree's.

4. The way it's practiced in Muslim countries is horrendous. It's unislamic, and downright immoral to take another wife just because the first can no longer produce children or whatever BS excuse they have. Women are not machines.

5. Jealously and love. If a man loves me, he's most certainly not going to go out and actively seek other relationships. If he is happy with me, he doesn't need to seek happiness anywhere else.

6. Fidelity. I don't tolerate adulterous men, or women., unless there are damn good extenuating circumstances.

7. No equality. A man can have a harem but a woman can't? Patriarchal BS.

I could go on, but it infuriates me. I have been touched by polygamy to a certain degree, and it makes me sick.

Hello!

Being a Muslim, and Islam allows Polygamy for some reasons (Up to 4 spouses only and there MUST be Equality between spouses) and my Grandfather was a polygamist.

But the thing is I CAN'T UNDERSTAND WHY DO I NEED TO HAVE MORE THAN 1 WIFE!!

I only need One person, One Soul in One Body only to share my good and bad times, raise my children with, to live with. I can't give my love to several people equally while my grand father said that each wife has it's quality and I love each one in a way other than the other wife but I maintain equality which I can't comprehend.

That was my answer built on some life experience, thnx for letting me xpress my opinion and Have a Nice Day!

Inherently, no.

In practice, usually.

I am polyamorous, so I've nothing against non-monogamy. What I do have problems with is the sexism and forced marriages that's generally a part of some polygamous marriages you see around the Utah area. Also you never see polyandrous marriages.

I've a number of friends in, basically, polygamous relationships, just without the official marriage part. Some polyandrous, some polygynous. Some, like a quad in know of (two women and two men, all living and in love with each other), function as if they were all married together, but don't fit any typical idea of polygamy.

In response to a previous poster. Love is not a finite resource. Time and attention may be, but not love. You don't love one child less when the second arrives. I've been in these type relationship (multi-love), so I do know exactly what I'm talking about.

There are two ways you look at the concept of polygamy. If a man marries a widow or some who is left alone in the world the concept of polygamy is fine. But one the other hand , if a man marries two women will he be able to give both the equal amout of love and happiness?? I dont think so. And also no women would like to see her husband sleep with someone else or in a matter of fact be with another women

It's 'for or against". If the community accepts it, its fine. Polygamy doesn't work with most cultures and traditions.
As long as no women are forced into polygamy, then there's no issue.

Honestly, if some woman wants to be with a man who has 5 wives and cater to him...Go on girl.

What I HATE is forced polygamy just like forced arranged marriage...and no 14 year old wants to marry a 60 year old...you'll never convince me of that.

fine with it. but
1. people have to be extra mature
2. polyandry (women with multiple husbands) should also be allowed. esp now a days with DNA testing, why not
3. not the horrible, rape of young girls polygamy. it has to be a good choice.
4. i get to be FIRST WIFE

Rejection ! In the Bible (think it's in the new testament) it says that you shall have only one wife. I believe that the Bible is the true word of God. I know that some people don't believe the way I do and that is find. But I'll believe the way that I think is right. Anyway, one wife is all I can handle and need.

If it is between consenting adults, sure, just like gay marriage. It would be very difficult though, dealing with the jealousy, the roles in the home, children, etc.
