Trust me you want it to last as long as possiable, if your not on bedrest already you should be. But being dilated to 1 can last for weeks or even months. just try to stay off your feet as much as possiable. Good luck

It can go from 0-10 centimenters in 30 minutes to 24 hours depending on the work done by your contractions. Hon, when your contractions are intense and 2 minutes apart consistently and it feels like the baby is about to drop out of you, GO! It may be too late. If you are a long ways from the hospital, then you should go when your contractions are consistently 5 minutes apart for 1 hour. Now if your water breaks, then go straight away. Labor is a matter of consistent contractions over a period of 1-24 hours. The intensity of the contractions change as dilation progresses into transition which is right before you push the baby into the new world. You will know when to go by the intensity and frequency of the contractions. Now, if you are wanting an epidural to deaden the pain then don't wait til the contractions are 2 minutes apart. There may be no time for the epi.

Forever. :-) Well....OK.....9 months.

Seriously - if you've had a baby before you could be 1 cm from conception because you never close up quite as tightly after the first one is born.

Do you know if you've started to efface? I was 3-4 cm dilated and 100% effaced for at least a week with my first baby.

How far dilated and effaced you are really means very little. It won't tell you when labor will start or anything. It's just another way that docs try to "manage" labor. Many midwives don't even check you until you're in active labor.

Well...could be until 40 weeks. Could be tomorrow. Some people never dilate until they are in actual labor others dilate slowly until like a 3 and then go into actual labor. If your dr hasn't told you already you should be getting bed rest. Left side, drink lots of water. I'm sure you kow ths but if you deliver now your bby will be in the hospital for like a month to 3.

My friend started to dilate at 33 weeks and her son was born at 36 weeks-so usually about 2 to 3 weeks.I am 33 weeks pregnant too and have not dilated at all though I would not mind having my son around 36 or 37 weeks!

What exactly have your OB/GYN Dr or midwives said? I was dilated at 1cm for over a damn week before I had my little girl but I was due date with her when I had her. They may give you something to stop labor if needed. Just keep track of your contractions and make sure they aren't getting stronger and closer together.

you can still go over your due date i was a centimeter and 50% effaced at 35 weeks and i didn't go into labor any earlier i was induced a week early but im sure i would have went at least to due date if not over and that was my second pregnancy its too early to go into labor you need to at least keep that baby in until the 38th week technically 37 weeks is okay but the longer the baby is in the healthier it will be!!!! you need to relax as much as possible i know youre tired and eager to meet your little sweetie but youre almost there!!! it will happen when its meant to. by the way i had contractions too but if they're not starting labor and they're not timeable they're most likely braxton hicks aka practice contractions! i know it sucks but youre in the home stretch and trust me take advantage of the peace and quite while you still have it!!!! good luck

it's possible to stay 1 cm dilated for weeks. I stayed 1cm for 7 weeks with my 2nd pregnancy. Good luck.

It's really hard to stay, right now you are still considered too early to have the baby. You still have 5 weeks left to even be considered full-term. It could be a matter of hours or weeks. Hang in there.
