The suggestions above work well. If you'd prefer to buy something specifically for cleaning garbage disposals and making your drain smell really nice, you can also buy an inexpensive product called Plink from Bed Bath & Beyond. They're little liquid-filled balls that work to clean away any odorous greases and leaves behind a fresh citrus smell. Works wonders!

It depends on what kind of drain it is. If it's a garbage disposal then grind up some lemons in there. Lemon neutralizes the smell. You can pour some lemon juice down the drain too but it can be kind of expensive. I do not suggest the baking soda mixed with vinegar. Vinegar and baking soda combined together creates a foam similiar to what we used to make a volcano errupt in science class. Bleach is usually the best recourse you can take. I use that in my bath tub drain especially since my hair gets caught in the drain and after you remove it, starts to stink. Be careful though what you use because certain things are harsh on septic systems.

Dump 1/4 cup of baking soda down the drain, then pour vinegar down a little bit at a time until it quits fizzing. It will smell like vinegar for a little while, but when it evaporates you will have a fresh drain with no hazardous chemicals!

Baking soda and vinegar are good at that, but if it's a drain with a garbage disposal, cut up a lemon or lime and have the disposal chop it up. It leaves a nice clean scent.

Well I doubt you can get rid of the drain... sounds like you want to get rid of the smell.

Drains generally have U traps in them to avoid that problem. If you have a drain that goes straight to the sewer without it then you are not going to be able to eliminate the smell since you are getting the venting from the drainage system.

If you have a trap (U or box or sump) you prob. need to clean it out and then refill it with water to seal it from the drainage system.

If it still smells after that put some vanilla in the water. It will mask the smell (but not eliminate it).

Baking soda. Simply dump some down your drain and let it sit for a few minutes then rinse it through.

If it is a normal drain, lemon juice, or bleach. If it is a garbage disposal toss some orange peels in it.
