I found it a beautiful town... lots of friendly people and good food. Also has really pretty narrow streets in the old town... see the following link for a photo I took there: http://www.360travelguide.com/360VirtualTour.asp?iCode=cre88

Rethymon is one of the nicest destinations in Crete for holidays.
It combines great day life (many sandy beaches) and if you rent a car which i have to say is a must if you travel to Crete, so you can drive 30-40 minutes drive to go to Chania and visit the old port or drive about 1 hour to the east and go to heraklion and visit Knossos ancient city.
Also if you a night life person you will be exited by the number of bars and clubs you can find there.
Enjoy your holidays

It is very beautiful, especially if you stay on the suburbs and visit downtown Rethymnon at night.
You can find cheap but very decent accommodation at 10 mins by bus or car and I could suggest you Galeana Appartments; clean, welcoming, drowned in flowers, good cuisine, rich breakfast, large pool, excellent beach.
Downtown there is an ambience of Medieval Ages, however full of bars, night clubs and restaurants. You can combine both fuss and calmness, depending on the time you visit.
It is a very nice choice, Enjoy!

If you like crowded & busy holiday destinations, Rethymno is a pleasant destination. It has lots to offer; cosy little port with typical restaurants and good shopping area. Sandy beaches and lots of interesting sightseeing destinations within fair distance driving through beautiful ever changing nature...Its a worthy destination. Enjoy Crete
