It has been proven that it is not a gateway drug, it has never killed anyone and it doesn't cause any physical harm, nor any mental disorders.

It is not physically addicting like alcohol or caffeine, and it doesn't impair your judgment or hinder your ability to drive.

Why is it still illegal in the US?

No idea but I suppose that if it was legalized the government may find it difficult controlling the derivitives from pot and therefore have to legalize it all; ie: hash, thai sticks etc. In Canada pot has been legalized as a form or pain control and if people receive a script from their doctor then they are ok to purchase and/or smoke. For a short while (only about 6 months) it was decriminalized and if found with a small quantity then there would be no charge. With change of government it once again became illegal, however majority of police will turn there heads for small quantity. Like yourself I have to agree that use of this substance is far less harmful then some legal drugs, but closed minded government officials are going to have to change their views on it and soon enough with the next generation of elected officials I believe there will be big changes as per this substance.

Because whatever the same justifications the potheads use....... you can always tell a person who has been smoking for a long time. A bit mentally slow and a bit too laid back. I for one am all for legalization. Those uneducated people who think that it doesn't effect them, that it is "less harmful" and that expend mental energy on making it legal........ rather than concentrating on real life be it alchohol or whatnot should have the right. There will always be people who don't need a crutch to deal with life. Those who take joy in being mentally nimble and therefore are more able to enjoy and appreciate all that life has to offer.

My own personal theory-
The reason it's illegal is because the gov't wont profit from it.
Anyone can make, buy, sell it.

Alcohol- it is addictive and more dangerous than marijuana but the reason i believe it's still legal is because the corrupt politicians are funded by many brewery companies.

My opinion, illegalize anything chemically addictive, caffeine, alcohol, tobacco.

Its illegality keeps millions employed - cops, lawyers, judges, bail bondsmen, prison employees, etc. etc. Besides that, think of all the drug companies making billions of dollars selling prescription antidepressants. It's all about the money. That's why it will never be legal in the USA.

You have to realize that the "war on drugs" is a huge employer of many people in the middle class. Keeping marijuana illegal is a knee-jerk reaction to other more serous drugs such as crack.

dont know about you but my *** cant drive stoned, but to your question I think alot of it has to do with the ability to tax it. It would be hard to accomplish because just about anybody can grow decient quality pot. In order to make decient quality alchol it takes time and alot of effort. (trust me that Mr beer kit makes beer just not good tasting beer) And its takes alot of work to grow tobbaco to. So It is a little easier for the goverment to regulate and tax those products.
