Unconditional love is almost a fairy tale. So it's kind of shaky as the basis for a relationship.
I'm not sure I believe you can have total unconditional love for a person (unless maybe that person is a child you gave birth to). I'll bet I could come up with a few conditions that would make you reconsider the love.
I think there are important things like trust, friendship, compromise, a sense of partnership, common goals, and so on that are vital to the foundation. The foundation requires many bricks, so to speak, not just one.

Foundation is important in marraige because there is a vowel made not of obligation but of compromise. Compromising is all a process. A marriage should not feel like an obligation if anytihing it is a union: where a man and a woman conjoin to become one. They are of one body and one mind. That notes the other two c's in the relationship and friendship: consideration, communication.

Yes. Especially, a man to unconditially to love his wife. If a man unconditially loves his wife it will be reciprocated, If someone makes a mistake during the marriage, the marriage will not fail. Unfortunately, most marriages are not founded on unconditional love.

Unconditional love is a strong statement. We tend to, without thinking about it much, put expectations on people. When those expextations are not met we have a choice to accept what it or to not accept it. If the former is chosen we tend to manifest resentments at the fact our expectation was not met. the only unconditional love I have experienced is from my Mom & my dog.

No. There are many factors when it comes to a marriage. The foundation of a marriage is friendship. Once you view your significant other as your BEST friend, then all of those other factors come into to play anyway.

Unconditional money would be my foundation for marriage, because that unconditional love when starvation walks in the front unconditional love runs out the back door. Don't say gold digger but if you AIN"T got money to support me, then I sure AIN"T got time for that unconditional love.

What about making sure your goals align?

That you agree on how you want to raise kids?

That you agree on financial goals and plans (like schooling, paying off loans, saving for a house, budgeting)?

Love by itself is not enough to make a marriage work. People have to have goals that are in alignment.

If it must be a compromise then make sure your partner is loaded and I don't mean with bullets.

Love is not enough when you are married to a bum that wont work.

Been there, done that, and by the grace of God, got rid of him.
