You can purchase a Bluetooth "dongle" which plugs into an available USB port. Windows XP SP1 onwards (I think) is best compatible and should run it's own Bluetooth application to help you pair your devices, receive and send files and set up additional services such as OBEX File Transfer, Audio Headset and with some devices and third party software, Remote Control.

You can pick up a "dongle" for less than £20 - I have a nice Belkin "F8T012uk" which has a range of 100m and supports the faster, secure Bluetooth 2.0 standard. Due to it's low power consumption - it does not drain much power from Laptop's. It also does the job very well and has superb pairing times!!!

P.S You can also use this adapter with certain printers as the "Bluetooth" print receiver. Many printer companies offer this but it normally costs quite a lot for the adapter - it's a matter of try it and see but it worked with my Epson R300!
