Gay Mammoths? That's interesting. I agree that cloning extinct things would be cool. Would Mammoths eat more or less than other things we grow as food? That would probably be the question I would want answered before cloning them as a source of food.

Seriously though, introducing any new species to an environment is never a good idea. We have no idea what sort of impact re-introducing mammoths would have on the existing plants and animals.

Because the land used for feeding cattle would produce enough vegetables to end world hunger. Add mammoth grazing on top of that...

Because they are extinct and haven't been alive since the Pliocene epoch(4.8 million years ago to around 3,500 years ago). Plus it's better to study them.

They taste like elephants, and we don't generally eat elephants. Why? It's cheaper and easier to raise other animals than elephants.
It's easier to raise even esoteric animals for food, such as ostriches and bison, than to raise elephants.
