This is a long shot but...
A friend of mine watched an Anime called NANA. It's basically about two girls called Nana and thier life situations.
But one of the Nana's is in a J rock band.
There is a real life version of Nana, in which they're shown at a J Rock concert - that is the closest i can think of to a Rock Band.

I believe Gravitation is about a singer in
band, but the show features homosexuality.

The series "Macross 7" featured a rock band named "Fire Bomber", who played a big role in it, its songs are singed and played by the band "Humming Bird".
And also as it already has been mentioned here, "Black Heaven" / "Kachou Oiji" (Chief Departement Ouji) is a comedy about a retired rocker who is now an office worker.

Black Heaven- a middle aged man discover that his guitar skills are the key to powering an alien superweapon.
It has one of the best opening songs ever
