My dads sister married the my girlfriends dads brother, so we share common relatives, but I dont think we are related, are we?

yes you are. your dad's sister is your aunt right? so she married your gfs' uncle which makes you cousins but not blood relatives

OK so your Aunt married your girlfriends Uncle. As far as I know I don't think that constitutes being related, but yes you do share relatives. If somewhere down the line you want to get married to your girlfriend I think that you are in the clear.
