Check out the link below for hotels in or near Chichen Itza.

However, I agree with several of the answers already posted plus I have some more thoughts:

- Rather than having to stay overnight at Chichen Itza, book a day trip from your Cancun hotel. The tour bus leaves early in the morning at get your back to Cancun in the evening. You won't need but a few hours to see everything there's to see there at C.I.
- Be ready for the oppressive heat and humidity there even during this time of the year. Chichen Itza is in the middle of the jungle so it's even worse than in Cancun.
- It rains almost every day or every other day there, in Cancun as well as at C.I.
-It's hard with a one-year old to make that trip, whether you stay overnight or not. Why don't you get a baby sitter through your hotel at Cancun and leave the baby there while you go for a day-trip to C.I.? (Lots of parents leave their children with the hotel during the day at the children's center but your child is still small so you'll need a different arrangement. Don't worry. The hotels there are reliable and familiar with your problem. Most have babysitting service or can arrange one for you. I've been down there and I have checked recently too)

Rather than trying to visit Chichen Itza on your own, I would suggest signing up with a tour. Tours run from almost any of the Cancun hotels. They generally make all the arrangments - travel, a meal and of course the tour. So you really don't have to worry about being "close" to Chichen Itza. Simply ask your hotel manager/staff about tours and they can guide you in the right direction. After all, helping tourists with arrangments is part of what they do for a living. The tour we took picked us up at our hotel, drove us to Chichen Itza, provided a guided tour of the ruins, plus about 2 hours "free" time where you could just wander on your own, speak to the local vendors, etc., then provided a meal at a local resturant that featured authentic mexican food that was delicious! (sorry, don't remember the name). We had a great time! Hope you do too!

You can stay in Riviera maya, in puerto aventuras there is a nice hotel that has a babysitter (about 10 dlls an hour). Sunscape Puerto Aventuras. It is all-inclusive. Then you grab a tour to chichen itza, it is about 4 hours away.
Good luck!

Chichen Itza is a long day for a one year old, take lots of water and towels so you can wet them.

Ummm, that's not exactly a good destination with a one-year-old in tow; sorry.
