I'm in the UK too and know nothing about country music. Noone listens to it over here really do they? Its seen as very much an American music style.
I think country used to get a bit more airplay in the UK in the early-mid seventies. I was born in 1971 and my mum can remember me singing "Take me home, Country Roads" in my little baby voice when I was about 3 or 4 - it was on the radio all the time.
But since then its been pretty much forgotten overe here.
I do love "Crazy" by Patsy Cline though - does that count as Country?

I can't give you a fav of all time because I love country music and there are so many fantastic songs and artists so all I can do is suggest some to listen to!. Try Gram Parsons, Willie Nelson, Cowboy Junkies, Bonnie Rait and Neko Case (absolutely awesome!). Sorry can't think of more!

You should really try to find "Strait out of the Box" by George Strait. It's a four disk set with tons of great music. I'd also suggest checking out Tim McGraw, Reba McIntire, and Garth Brooks.

There's some really good ones actually! My favourite is Glen Campbell - Witchita Lineman. It's so nice. Try the Dixiechicks too, the album "Wide open spaces" is good. I got a good cd called The Kings and Queens of Country and it's got really good things on it.
