How to be happy, yes.
The ability to be happy... unless you have a chemical or physical problem in the brain which does not allow you to experience the emotion (I've never heard of this, but maybe possible)... should already be in us as part of our emotional hard-wiring.

One trick to induce happiness is simply to smile. There are studies that have shown that forcing yourself to smile actually brings on happiness in most people.

Peace

learn? sure, why not? although circumstances may impact perception, it is how you feel/think/and act that affects your mood more than what happens to you.

but happiness definetly can be made into a habit. for example, if you have to do a seriously unpleasant task (ie: clean out dog kennels), it will seem less horrendous if you smile while doing it, even though you are probably not really happy about it.

Yes, I think so--WHEN we stop expecting some one else to meet our needs such as mentioned above which a mother used to do for us. When we learn to take a self-actualizing journey. When we give up preconceived idas of what makes a person happy.

Yes.

Buddhism devotes quite a bit to this, which can entail life-long learning.

Cognitive depression therapy is effective for many. People can make themselves happier by learning to control and eliminate their harmful thoughts (not unlike meditation), and by being taught to recognize activities that make them happy, or sad.

Follow your bliss.

College taught me: happiness=emotion; contentment=mood or condition of life.
Yes, it can be learned, but you have to hold onto the good in the midst of the bad.

Babies innately know happiness, that's why they smile so readily at 6 weeks and on. That's why happiness comes from within.Try smiling to yourself in the mirror every day. Love yourself, give yourself a hug every so often:)

I think happiness is something you have to earn, not necessarily learn.

I think so. Once the necessities are met--food, water, shelter, etc., the rest of life is pure interpretation. We can choose to be happy, if we free our minds from mondo bondage, and let go of the superfluous emotional baggage.
