English Internships? What are some good places to intern?

I am a sophomore English major at a school called Claflin University. They really aren't exposing me to many internships, so I decided to take it upon myself and search for internships that would benefit someone with an English degree.

First of all, my search is broad, so if anyone could help to stear me in the right direction. My future goal is to write for a magazine, work for an online magazine or a film company like the Cannes Film Festival.

If anyone knows of any internships or can tell me where to look being that I'm an English major, I'd gladly appreciate it. PLEASE HELP ME!

I would look at local publishers. Are there any local newspapers or magazines in your area? If so check thier websites or offices to see if they have any internships available.

You might also want to look inot advertising. Many people in the publishing world start ou tin sales so you could get some good instituional knowledge from working at a advertising or marketing agency.

If your chool has a newspaper you might want to work there. Its not the same as an internship but it will look good on a resume all the same...its experience after all.

Radio and TV stations might also be a place to look at. They have people write and produce all thier segments so you can learn more about that medium as well. It will look good if you have experience in any area of Mass Communication.

Some online magazines accept material from anyone, see if you can submit editorials and get stuff published, any writing samples you can say you got published will look great as you go out for jobs after school.

Finally check with your school, they may not encourage internships but there is usually a career development office at most schools and they shouldbe able to help you out or point you inthe right direction.
