The most underrated piano player of all time, Lennie Tristano.

The most authentic jazz radio station, WKCR.org, out of Columbia University, NYC, preempted all their regularly scheduled programs a few months ago to present a week long 24 hour presentation of Lennie and his music.

I remember hearing a song from him from 1949. For a moment, I forgot what I was listening to, I guessed that it was some Blue Note artist from 1965-1969. He played poly rhythms and was creatively about 20 years ahead of his time. He is not well known because he didn't play live or record too often. His most famous disciple is Lee Konitz.

I recently found an artist called Avishai Cohen. He is a world class jazz bass player who has played with Chick Corea. His solo stuff is amazing -i am pretty sure that he writes the piano parts as well as playing the bass but he does have a pianist for his shows and recordings. I prefer the more recent albums.

My other suggestion - equally amazing is Tori Amos - avoid the newer albums - i recommend Cornflake Girl for starters.
