I have a 3+ yr old female beardie. Not sure on her age because my husband bought her from a student of his. She's always been a lemony colored girl, but over the last couple of weeks (2-3), I realize her beard is always black. Normally, it would only become black if she were worked up about something. Has anyone else noticed this in their dragons? Thanks!

When a Bearded Dragons beard turns black it means that it is either Adgitated or Annoyed or Both. There are too many factors that can cause this. A ceiling fan or anything above her in a room. Beardies natural predators are birds. Maby she can see her reflection and thinks their is another beardie. something is annoying her and a Black beard all the time for too long can endup killing your beardie.

Well, most of the time it is only the male beardies that get the black coloration of there "beards". Also, most reptiles color will brighten when they are adequately warmed up. The first thing I would recommend doing to attempting to "sex" the beardie and make sure it is a female. This can be done by flipping the beardie over and looking for hemipenial bulges which would be a noticeable mass just pass the cloaca and also look at the size of the femoral pores on the back of the hind legs. Anyways if it is a male this is very typical it if is a female its very possible that she is just "in season". Please check the site bellow for great information on sexing a beardie!

Please, do no longer positioned yet another bearded dragon in consisting of her. it finally no longer make her satisfied and it truly is going to very probably reason her an excellent type of rigidity. Why might want to you do this? A male will hound her to mate continuously and inspite of a lady their will be an concern of domination. Her needing a chum is a human choose, it may be not hassle-free that you'll be able to appreciate, yet reptiles do no longer imagine an identical way as we do. they're solitary and be conscious all different living issues in only 3 diverse kinds: food, Predators or competition.
