I grew up in a very mixed-race part of town, with an almost equal mixture of whites, blacks, hispanics, and asians. I'm blessed that I was able to do so, as I see many other people my age who grew up in neighborhoods of primarily one race, and they tend to be more close-minded and (perhaps unintentionally) racist, meaning they make judgements against people based soley on their race. I am more apt to recognize the individual first and make judgements based on that. I also was able to experience a wide variety of cultural traditions that I would not have otherwise been a part of, and it has made my life that much richer. Though this was years ago, my current friend base is almost more mixed than I think it otherwise would have been.
