Yes, each parent has equal rights to the child. One just has to be named as the parent that establishes residency.

The non-custodia parent can demand to see report cards, informed of or set up their own parent teacher conferences, etc. This is the same with all medical procedures and records as well.

The biggest misconception is that the custodial parent is in charge, and the non-custodial parent has less authority concerning the children.

Granted, there are times when they are not, but in a standard possession order for joint custody, each parents has equal rights concerning the child(ren).

The school will be required to work with and report to that parent as well. Best bet, for the children, is to meet with the teacher together. It takes up less of the teachers time, and ensures each parent is getting the same information. It also shows the child that while their parents are not together, they are raising them together.

My ex and I do all of that stuff together. While we don't like hanging out with each other, this is a time where differences are set aside for the sake of the child.

In WI: If the non custodial parent won't / can not spend time with the youngster & would be residing in a house different than the homestead of which the youngsters stay. NO! Thats why they have custodial mothers and dads. yet: the youngster has the the main suitable option to elect while they turn sixteen.

technically, yes...if the parent is listed on the school records then they have a right to copies of all academic papers regardless of who the child lives with or their marital status, i have worked in schools where you have to schedule 2 seperate parent teacher confs. for the same kid because the parents can't/won't be in the same room together...the non custodial parent may not (in certain cases) give consent for trips nor remove the student from the building...

I think every situation is different, but my step sons "birth" Mom gets a duplicate report card sent to her in the mail. I would think any biological parent would be able to request a conference with the teacher. I think teachers like to know what is going on in their students lives at home. That way if their grades start to slip...they know it might be problems and maybe they should see the guidance counselor. I think my step son's Mom lives at the school. They told us at our conference that she drives them crazy. I told them...if you think she drives you crazy...come live my life. :) I hope that helps. Have a good one.

First of all, any non-attorney giving legal advice is a 3rd degree felony! Period!!!! I can not/ will not give any legal advice whatsoever. If you need to be advised you must see an attorney. with that said...Are you divorced? Do you have shared-parenting? If you have visitation rights, you probably have the right to information regarding all of these things..It is great that you want to be involved in your child's education.
