When they did not control congress, but now they are wanting to control not only congress but the presidency as well? Where is that fair balance of power they were so concerned about before?

Fact is whoever is in power is not going to cooperate with the pleas of the minority for bipartisanship. If the power swings to the other side the new majority ( which had previously been the minority ) will then start throwing their weight around.

Let's talk about fair and balanced.

Since 1994, when the Republicans took over control of Congress, they have not allowed ANY minority debate on the floor; no Democrat could debate bills or legislation. Less than a week after Nancy Pelosi was named Speaker of the House, she announced that she WILL allow and encourage the Republican minority to openly debate bills and legislation. Apparently, unlike the power-hungry Republicans, she understands that productive debate from both sides will benefit the country.

Not completely sure what you mean, but I'm guessing you're talking about Pelosi's "no blank check" statement. Our country--as I'm sure you know--has a balance of power structure at its very bedrock, and has always had it since its beginning. People from both sides of the political spectrum are always trying to give the branch they control more power. It's the nature of the beast, and when we're talking about the political beast, it's usually a double-talking-no-headed beast at that... regardless of whether they're liberal or conservative. I like the broad middle because that is--in my opinion--where most of the common sense folks come down.

For either camp, its all about balance of power in the direction that suits them most. Remember when the democrats were in charge and "term limits" became important to conservatives. Once both houses were controlled by conservatives, this issue was tabled again. Actually, I'd vote for term limits just to remove Ted Kennedy, Nancy Pelosi or any other dug-in politician for either side that has outlived his or her usefulness.

No one in the History of our country has done more to trash the constitution and the bill of rights than Bush and Republicans in Congress for the last 5 years. Bush even thinks he is above Congress and he has no obligation to do the will of the people in Iraq. You may want to read more and watch Fox and listen to Rush less. In truth you will find education.

Before and after quotes of what these politicians say are helpful. Unfortunately some will support their team even at the expense of our country. We all need to put our country ahead of any political organization.

I'm sure you know the real answer to your question is they were willing to say whatever they needed to in order to gain power. We need to research the history of voting and political activity of people and not just take them at the word they are giving us today.

Some are good at pretending even for a few years. It's a good thing we can quote them and expose thier deceptions. Unfortunately, some deliberately believe lies because they think the ends justify the means and they think that their party having a majority is worth supporting lies.

Both parties need to watch out for pretenders who will try to infiltrate them and then undermine them later. Republicans call them RINO (Republicans in name only). It is despicable for either party to do that because they aren't doing what the their constituents elected them to do.

Balance of power?

Well I know that I always want even the minority party to be able to share their views on subjects and debate. But I never remember saying that there should be a balance of power in the elected government. It tends to sway to democrat and republican and back and forth. Um... who said to you they want balance of power?

How are they trying to control the presidency? Congress is, (finally,) simply exercising their just power to try and stop the dictatorship.

You are "talking about the next president"? So you are saying that Democrats should try and lose the next presidential election so there is a balance of power? Sorry I wasted my time answering this ridiculous question.

I could care less if a Republican was elected as president in 2008. As of now, we have checks and balances and that is how it needs to stay. No one party needs to dominate our government.
