My contractor says that a cut in the vinyl floor in our bath will not show at all if "done right". Should I just insist on getting a full new sheet of vinyl installed since it is under warranty?

It eventually will show up--it depends on the quality of the vinyl, the quality of the repair and how much traffic, water, etc. it's going to get. It could be next month, next year or 10 yrs from now.

He is probably right since they have to seam vinyl flooring in large areas. However, if this was an error on their part, no matter how well it is fixed, it will evidentally show as another answerer said. I would insist on either a large cost reduction or a new sheet if it was their error. Cost reduction may be good depending on how long you plan of leaving it down.

A cut in the vinyl floor will always be visible. If it's behind the toilet or under the vanity don't worry about it but, if it's out in the open replace it. if left, dirt will work it's way into the cut & it will start to come up.Contracter should eat his labor charge for the first install.

The vinyl's job is to protect the subfloor from water damage. If there's a tear in it, it needs to be fixed. If they can adequately seal this to your satisfaction, then a new sheet wouldn't be necessary.

Keep in mind that most people have 12" x 12" tiles and that means that there are seams everywhere. A little tear should be fine, as even with that, you have more protection than most people do.

If you do not insist on a new floor, he should discount the damaged one, and fix it! I used to help clean new houses. You wouldn't believe how many cuts could be in your floors. I suggest crawling around on your hands and knees looking/feeling for them, so you can point them out to the contractor. They throw nails and screws in the bathtubs and then walk on them, so look for gouges in your tubs also. Go over every inch of your house before you release them! Make them fix and discount anything you find wrong! Good Luck!

Yes. The cut can lead to a tear and could get worse. It is best to get a new sheet.
