How come your keyboard has a cent symbol? My keyboard doesn't! Neither did the previous keyboard!

If you were to use the character map feature under tools and system tools, you can get the cents sign or the letter e with the accent mark above them.

To really answer your question, probably because cents isn't used as much.

Because cents can easily be presented as a decimal of a dollar, and while dollars can be spoken of as hundreds of cents, its much less natural as far as how people usually talk about and think about money. Think about it, how often do you go to the store and see a can of peas for "$1 and c25"?

Just hold the ALT key down and type 0162 and it will appear. The symbol is not as used much anymore. ¢

Probably because it is more commonly used. You can still symbolise cents by putting $0.50 , but you can't not use it the other way around.

i was thinking the same thing the other day. weird, huh? i guess because we always just round it to the next number so it's only sensible to have the $ symbol.

I have always wondered that as well. I don't think there is one on the typewriter keyboard either.

$ is suppose to be at the beginning of a sentence and cents is suppose to be spelled out,., this is the proper business way,..,

you can find one in microsoft word under the Insert>symbol category. Or just write $0.05 or whatever
