It depends on what kind of information you are trying to give to what kind of a person.

Charts are better for the average application because you can quickly comprehend 'The Big Picture'.

Tables are better for certain applications because you get more detailed, precise information.

For Example: Your bank statement lists each of your deposits and withdrawals in a table. Your bank might also include a chart concerning different kinds of Certificates of Deposit and Money Market Funds which they recommend for investments.
