How times change! Was all the rage in the 70s, with Beano characters being whacked on a weekly basis. My husband got it at school and my mum kept a flip flop just for smacking (yes, social services have been informed!). Has slippering died a death or just gone underground like dog fighting?

My mom was famous for the "sneak-and-smack." She would tell me to quit doing something a couple of times, and then wait until I was completely engrossed in doing it again. Then she would be all quiet and stuff and sneak up behind me and smack my behind. Never very hard, but the shock value was so much more important than any amount of pain.

I have every intention of using this technique on my own kids. Very effective without much effort. ;)

I never got the slipper/shoe, but I occasionally got a spanking. Spankings were not a excessive punishment in my household and I only got this punishment if I did something really really bad or dangerous.

This is kind of a funny question. but I got the hair brush and wooden spoon paddles. My husband also got the wooden spoon busted on his rear. i think families have all their different "techniques". Now A days, you be in deep **** for whipping a kid with anything. But when I look back at my childhood, I don't think it was child abuse.

No slipper here, The teachers shared a fiberglass board and my 3rd grade teacher liked bending your fingers back as she wacked your hand with a ruler.

In grade school, we used to receive "whacks" for misbehavior from a 1x4 with a handle carved on one end--administered with enthusiasm by a 6'5", 220lb. graduate of Notre Dame, who went through college on a baseball scholarship. Invigorating.

no slippers, but I got the belt! The belt was horrible! On special occasions, (when there was nothing else close to grab), my mom would get me with a hairbrush! Ouch!
