I already have statcounter.com installed and they are great - but is there a way to capture email addresses? Or trace the IP address? What info will I get from the IP address?

you can get IP address only. if you want emali address then u must introduce a way so that users can sign up for sth or sth like a forum.
You can get all about their system and location details if you use a third-party service like MaxCounter.com
I use them. I hav also used statcounter, but after using MaxCounter, i am really satisfied. it helps me to get many information about my visitors.

To capture email addresses the user would have to input the data in a form of some sort. A lot of hosting accounts have logs that will show IP address of the visitors to your site. The imformation presented with the IP address varies depending on what software you hosting company is using.

You can capture IP addresses, which you can then use to figure out approximately what city the person is from, but there is no way to "automatically" capture email addresses. Why not just ask people to sign a guestbook instead. Or you could have an intro page where people have to enter the email address to "sign in" before they can enter your actual website (that's what I would do).

You can not get an e-mail from typical visitors, only if you include a php type contact form on your website that asks for one or requires one.
The IP address really won't tell you much, except the general area they are in, if that. AOL addresses will not reveal anything because they use mega-proxies :)

No, there is no way to track email addresses. All you can get is the IP address, and that doesn't do you much good.

no. all you can get is an IP address. that will tell you where and what network they are connecting from.

The best way to do this would be free registration, then you can collate all of their info and then create a mailing list

anyone can have any number of e-mail addresses, so you cant get their e-mail, but you can put a guestluist.
