I am AMAZED at how many people spend their lives lying to everyone. Why is the truth so hard to tell.I may be TOO truthful but at least my friends and family can count on honesty with me. Do lies really make things better? Come on people. The truth will set you free.

Tell me what is truth and prove it to me and I will speak only of it for the rest of my life probably... The difference between a lie and the truth can often be perspective. One mans lie could be another mans truth and vice versa. So why you look down at others for lie'n you are really saying there perspective has no merit a greater sin then the lie itself imo. Also a politican lies to trick people into believing something thats not true. An artist lies to help people discover the truth. I guess it really depends on if your a politican or an artist. And the artist will claim to be a politican sometimes and a politican will clame to be an artist at times. Its very hard to know whos who in the game of life but with a lil wisdom and some patience you can normaly figure out the difference.

People lie for many reasons, and they believe everyone else is lying too.
I do know people who dont tell lies. They dont do anything that they would need to lie about.
Then there is when LYING is the RIGHT thing to do.
When the truth would be worse than a lie.

True story.
My friend died. He had given me a bag of jewelery to give to his children when he died. There was nothing for his only daughter.
He said that she had gotten all her mothers jewelery when she had died 8yrs previous.
All his jewellery was to go to his 2 sons.
There was 2 womens rings in the bag.
I told the daughter her father wanted her to have these 2 rings.
Should I have told the truth that when said "Marissa gets nothing ?"

That the world for you!!!
I tried to be honest but was taken for a fool. What's more is that the more truthful you are the more you get lied to or even sidelined. Some people consider it plain and boring. In fact almost everything in the world is build some dishonesty. I don't mean to be pessimistic but that's just how works in this world!!. at he end of the day it boils down to how your conscience can handle being honest or not.

I think people lie to avoid having the uncomfortable conversations that the truth would generate. These things come up eventually anyway, but people believe they can put these things off. The real trick is that most people know you're lying.

I have read most of the answers above and it seems that people use lying to take the easy way out. It is HARD WORK to live a righteous life; most people are lazy so they lie. I'm still working on this, but it is a worthy goal.

Truth is best. I don't like having lies behind my eyes so, I strive for truth every day. AND I am always surprised when I catch people lying. I guess I am gullible. I take people at face value and don't stop to consider that they may be lying. It disturbs me sometimes how many people succumb to their fundamental darkness and lie cheat and steal their way through life. =[[

to me lying just makes everything worse. in the long run the person will caught any way.i have never saw a time when a person lied that they did not get caught. it it kind of like a snowball the more you tell the bigger the lies have to be as you go on. eventually you are going to forget what you said. there is no sense in it.

I agree with you. I always try to tell the truth . . .And mainly people lie because a lot of people don't like the truth and they prefer to live in denial.

You'd think so, but the truth actually doesn't work the way you'd like it to for most instances, for instead of being honest and open, people tend to like to be politically correct and hold to view and ideas that one would find more polite. Being polite simply means making others comfortable with one's action. I learn this from being in many situations where it's nothing less than befitting to behave as though a gentleman. Simply, people are too used to the conformed idea of political correctness, and what is correct to do in public areas, and what is not. Although speaking about how one's underwear sticks to their bottom if they sit too long may be an idea many can relate to, but once you take away that comfort factor for some, it's a no passing zone. People sometimes cannot accept the truth, simply for comforts purposes. In a way I suppose one could look at it as people not wanting to stretch their boundaries. Being why conformity and etiquette were very large in the past, but not so much anymore these days. The middle class seems to have had become a bit more relaxed if you will in the respect of acceptance. Being to where it's gotten to the point that people are starting to openly admit homosexuality and the like. Where in the past, although in existance, was clearly a deathsentence to any societal ambition, viewed as perversion. It's all about the comfort zones of people in that respect. People have a really big thing about how other's view them, which is why the idea of etiquette even comes into the picture to start with. There isn't a person alive who doesn't care what people thinks about them, lest they be in a mental institution. In some respect, everyone cares about what people think of them, or else their lives would be worth nothing. Like living in the jungle. What good are your actions if only the animals see them? It's the exact same thing with life in society if someone truly didn't care about what another thought of them. People who may perspective seem unattractive may state that they do not care what people think simply to alleviate the pain and pressure of not living up to a standard of beauty, but truly they do care just the same. Thus people lie in order to get others to think well of them, and sometimes it happens automatically, it just spills from their mouth simply to have people think better of them, rather than worse. That seems to be the main reason for lying to my ways of thinking. Lies will only make things better when one is living in corruption. The saying goes "Oh what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to deceive". It tends to happen a lot, but it doesn't have to go that way with everyone. You overall choose what you wish to accept mentally and what you do not, and i find whatever it is one believes most deeply in your heart usually is the true reality for them. Truth and reality in that sense become a bit blurred with the fact that we can only view life from a third person perspective of being human. But perhaps that is enough. It seems to suffice. Simply surround yourself and believe that people are truth tellers rather than doubting them. Even if you don't believe them, atleast you can trust them not to be trusted. And that is a refreshing thought. You can still live a happy existance without having to be surrounded by truthtellers. But I'm sure liars won't account for your full entourage of peers. The few true blues that will come around will be all the truth you need. The rest, simply will react to your truthful personality as best they see fit to. And that's ok, that's what they're meant to do here. But you as a person have your own choices, of whether or not you place responsibility on them for your liking or disliking them, or whether not to use your own responsibility to determine the outcomes of your life, for truly you do have responsibility atleast somewhat, for everything that ever happens to you. And when you look at life like that, you'll find you have a lot more control that you originally thought about the outcome of your own life experiences.

my opinion on people lying is that they think they can get away from the consequences of thier actions, even if what there lying about is minor they believe that when they lie they'll avoid confrontation from the other person. in other words people are afraid..
