I am taking Clomid to help conceive. I have PCOS and hypothyroidism. I take metformin, synthroid, prenatal vits daily. Some cycles I ovulate on clomid, others I don't. My doctor tried adding a steroid last cycle to the clomid and I had horrible side effects and still ovulated very late and very weak with a short luteal phase. I have heard of adding high doses of vit. C with the clomid to improve the effectiveness of the clomid and was wondering if anyone else had heard or tried that. Also, are there any other things I can add to the clomid to help increase its effectiveness?

Thanks in advance!

I am currently on 2550mg of met daily--the highest recommended dose. I also take 100mcg synthroid, and am up to 250mg of clomid days 3-7.

I would be cautious about adding too much to the Clomid, as it's supposedly some pretty potent stuff. If you're not ovulating on every cycle, perhaps you could ask your doctor about upping your dosage, unless you're on a high dosage already. I use 50mg Clomid and it works fine for me, but maybe you'd get better results with 100mg or higher. Just learn about the risks involved - higher dosage amounts increase your chances of ovarian cysts during use.

The only thing I really put into my body to help things along - and it doesn't affect the Clomid - is Robitussin. The active ingredient, guaifenesin, helps to thin cervical mucous and create a less hostile environment for sperm.

Good luck to you. I also have PCOS, but conceived using Clomid. Now we're trying for #2 so I'm right here with you!

If you are on a lower dose of metformin you can up the dosage. Metformin helps clomid work better at higher dosages. My RE just upped my dose to 1500mg a day. Good luck and babydust!
