what do you know about kitch in the "art" If Gaudi,s work is kitch

Kitsch refers to art that claims to have an aesthetic purpose but is tawdry and tasteless. It usually applies to cheap sentimental works produced for the mass market, such as those found in souvenir shops and chain stores, but it is also used for any art that is considered in bad taste. Kitsch or kitch is originaly from the German word meaning 'trash' although more recently has been used as a word to describe objects of poor taste and usually poor quality.

As for Gaudi, I would say it takes a skewed perspective to call his work kitsch. There's a Time article that claims "the ornate decoration of many Gaudí buildings can be seen as at best superfluous, at worst kitsch." This is referring to the ornamentation though, and I would gladly argue against the idea that it's superfluous, unless you define all ornamentation as excessive and useless. It's true that people tend to either love or hate his work, but even if you interpret Gaudi as "gawdy" it still doesn't make him kitsch.
