Definitely try some of the songs off of the Garden State soundtrack, as well as perhaps the Aquamarine soundtrack. There's some good ones on them, or if you want specific bands you might want to try Jimmy Eat World (their album Futures has some good songs that might be appropriate), the Calling (definitely this band! They have tons of romantic songs that people know but just don't know the artist), or Vanessa Carlton (she sings A Thousand Miles, Ordinary Day, and some other songs that are good that might fit).

Take a look at the Garden State soundtrack or the Last Kiss soundtrack - both have very mellow songs on them and different artists
