Well, that's a complex question, with a more complex answer than your simple assumption.
Radio talk shows don't get popular because their "message" is correct, or not correct. It's about popularity, and the entertainment skills of the performers, separate from whether or not what they are saying is true.
For instance, Rush Limbaugh, regardless of whether one believes what he's saying or not, you can't argue that he's not a good entertainer & speaker. He's got the "gab chops" big time.

However, having said that, I have my own theory:

There's no logical reason that there would inherently be more entertaining conservatives than liberals, in fact it could be argued that since the entertainment industry is FULL of liberals, the available pool of talented entertainers for liberal talk shows is much, much larger.
So... my theory is that this phenomenom that you name (which is indisputable), is because most mainstream media REALLY IS BIASED TO THE LEFT, and therefore your every-day, garden variaty liberal citizen gets their fill without having to intentionally seek out their point of view via liberal talk radio/TV shows.
It's already out there in all the news & talk shows, from 60 minutes, Diane Sawyer, Barbara Walters, Letterman, Leno, etc., right down to your local TV broadcasters.
If you're a conservative, you rarely hear your point of view in the mainstream media, so you seek it out in Limbaugh, O'Reilly, etc..
But if you're a liberal, it's everywhere already without having to tune in to Al Franken, etc., so those guys have miniscule audiences as a result, and go out of business.

The Ed Schultz show actually passes Limbaugh among the 25-54 age range in many markets.

Most Americans prefer common sense and for their "heroes" to act like adults, not angry little children throwing temper tantrums and spewing vile hatred in the most vulgar of ways. America also likes to hear actual ideas and rational thought. That is why lib radio is the joke of the land.

In this case, as in almost every other case I can recall wherein the question begins with the word "Why", the correct answer is Money. It is almost always true, and remains true in this case as well.
The Right has finance behind them.
