Some people believe the memory goes with the person to heaven, heaven, or some other dimension. Others belive it stays with a ghost, at least for a time on the earth.
The Skeptic would say when the brain dies so does the person and the memory.
I think one way or the other, it is the ones who are still alive that miss the dead people more. It is very possible the dead, even if in heaven, the people remember and appreciate but do not miss with the saddness of we earthbound humans.
I might add, that animals appear to grieve as well.

The memory is part of the spirit/soul, which returns to God. We don't know what the afterlife is like, Jesus returned briefly but didn't tell us much about what to expect. But God is a creative intelligence so I would say that the person who dies continues to participate in creation. So they are missed, more than they miss. We who are left behind miss them...they are busy doing whatever it is they do.
But don't worry, you don't remember being born, either...I'm sure when you get to the other side, you won't remember this life.

what a question! a friend died in july last year and i have been thinking the same thing, she left her 6 year old grandson behind who she looked after every day and he misses her so much, its very weird, i often think that she would be happy where she is now, but then i think, but she must miss the people who miss her, im not religous in anyway, i just like to think there is something after we have gone, its a nicer thought than nothing! id like to think she misses us more, because we have one another to for support in the family, so she must wish she could be back here, more than we wishher back, i just hope what i have said makes sense, it does to me!

I think we miss them more ... my feeling is they'll always be near watching over us, our guardian angels ... we just can't watch over them so we have nothing but memories.

THE SAD FACT IS, THE BRAIN IS SOFT TISSUE AND WILL DECAY LIKE A PIECE OF MEAT
RELIGIONS SAY YOU HAVE A SOUL, BUT THAT IS DEBATABLE
