If you are an EQ fan your probably gonna be hard pressed to change games. Here is what your missing though. WoW has better graphics, an amazing character custimization tree, great weapons, ridiculously huge bosses, easy to learn controls, and a great online community. But, I have only seen EQ2 and never played it. Hope that Helps.

Okay to give a DECENT answer... (:P) WoW is probably the best MMORPG out there today. EQ has been around for awhile, however, and has a great fanbase.
Since I've never played EQ myself, I cannot compare them, but I can tell youthat WoW is an addicting and extremely fun game. There are currently 8 races, 10 classes to choose from. On the 16th another 2 races are being added with the expansion.
Each race has their own 'starting area' that gets you into the game and thru simple quests gives you a good understanding how the game works. From there you basically move on to other areas, doing quests, levelling up your char and obtaining new skills or improving ones you have every 2 levels. Improved skills meaning, several 'ranks'. Example: Fireball spell, Rank 1 might do like 12-23 damage, while Rank 2 would do 32-48 dmg.. that kind of thing.
In addition to skills, you have 'talent trees' which you begin obtaining points for at level 10. For every level you get 1 point to place into these 'trees.' Not going to go into it else this will turn into a book, but basically talents improve your character even further, be it adding chance to crit hit, adding effects to things, etc etc.
Beyond PvE (Player versus Environemt - questing, killing 'mobs' (npcs) ) there is also PvP (Player vs Player) which can be started at 10, tho most wait til later.
PvP is broken up into levels, 10-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, and 60 all have their own separate groups, so if you PvP in a Battleground your going against players around your level, not a level 20 against a 60 :P
All in all it is a very fun game. If you want to know more, visit www.worldofwarcraft.com. Near the bottom right is a link that can give you more detailed info.
$15 a month fee to play, but at .50 / day unlimited time... you can't get any cheaper form of entertainment except from one of those *shudders* FREE games :P
Hope you give it a try, and maybe we'll run into each other some day on there! :)
