Yes. It's made more clear in the book, but in the movies (at that time) you had to disguise certain things (such as subtext) so as to not offend the general public and get on the wrong side of the censors. So it was up to the audience to figure out what was actually going on, sort of like the gay vibe in Spartacus and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.

No! A wh*re by definition is a prostitute (example: Paris Hilton, Pamela Anderson, Eva Longoria, Angie Jolie). Audrey's girl is stealing, but in a humorous movie-world way. She's never having s*x with anyone in the movie.
