I have Dell dimession 521 with a SATA DVD-ROM. I recently purchased a 2nd DVD+/-RW SATA drive.
I only have one SATA cable (one connector) that currently connects my DVD-ROM. Are there splity SATA cables that I can buy and use the one connector on the motherboard to connect the 2 drives?

You do not need a splitter, the E521 has four SATA connections on the motherboard, so unless you have three SATA hard drives hooked up, you should have some empty SATA connectors on the motherboard.

No. In order to connect your new SATA drive you will need to have an available SATA port on your Motherboard. If you do not I would suggest that you get a PCI SATA controller card which will allow you to add more SATA drives. Unlike PATA each port can only have 1 device connected to it.

If you dell is like some that I have, you will have the purchase the PCI card because they only have two SATA ports, one is used for the HDD and the other for the optical drive.

Good luck in getting your new hardware up and running.

You can go buy a Raid Card and install on your Motherbord with which you can connect many SATA drives.
