The USB cord and CD are for those who can't use the Ethernet connection, they don't have a (NIC) card in their computer.

The CD contains the drivers for the modem when used with the USB connection.

The Ethernet connection requires no special drivers as they are already built into Windows.

When using the Ethernet cable with the modem everything is preconfigured, so normally it just works.

Every CPU doesnt have a network/LAN so some have to use the USB port to use a modem...XP has most standard drivers for modems, so when you plugged it up, Windows detcected if and ZOOM!...off to the races!!! you dont have to ever use the usb and the ethernet is faster!!!

PS. keep the CD and the USB..you never know when you nay need them!!!
