Footless tights or leggings. It is important to see the movements of your feet and legs. You will probably be dancing bare feet or on your socks.
And a tight t-shirt. Something you feel comfortable in.

OK...
Ask me anything about this subject I AM A PRO.

What to you should wear from top to bottom depends on not what teacher you have because we know its your FIRST class.
#1 your hair MUST be secured. that means in a bun not a ponytail. lose hair will distract others and get in your eyes when you turn. plus pins can fall on floor.
#2 keep rings OFF.no jewelry is best realy. Keep your earings small. you dont want anything flying off and swinging around plus rings will make an anoying sound in classs as you grab the bar.
#3 usually dancers do not use undergarments under their leotard and tights but if you feel the need just make sure it is tucked away.
#4 leotard / bodysuit is of your choice just remember to keep it your size and comfortable.
#5 tights can be worn alot of ways. the most important is that you get the correct size. there is nothing more embarassing than lifting your leg and finding out your cotton crotch is by your knees.
* you can wear your fist pair of tights under your leotard and buy a second pair any color: black ,pink, same color as your suit , and cut the feet then place that pair over everything else just make sure that the crotch is not lined on the outside pair.
Thats a comfortable look that makes you feel a bit more secure.
I personally wouldnt wear a skirt.
#6 shoes! this is important. you must place/sew the elastic on all shoes, you must also tuck the strings of the shoes inside. It would be a good idea to wear shoes before class to break them in but do not wearthem outside in the street.

basically thats it. just keep it simple and focus on clean lines and what youll be doing in the clothes.

cutting the feet off tights tip: make a small vertical opening 4" on the sole of the stocking (from ball of foot to bottom of heel) and put clear nailpolish on it so it wont run and your stockings should last you years.

The dance studio where you are enrolled will most likely have a uniform colour ... you will need a leotard the style specified by your dance school, and, for small children, a pair of socks to wear with your ballet slippers, or, if you prefer, ballet tights in a skin colour pink. Shoes are normally pink and can be either straight soft sole, or a split sole ... also they are in canvas, a fabric or satin. Your teacher should advise you on her preferences.

Ok...don't listen to the people that say tutu. You will be safe in pink tights and a black leotard but you should ask before you go if the teacher prefers leather or canvas shoes, and also ask about full sole or split sole. I danced in leather split sole shoes myself. That is, if you're a girl. If your a boy you should wear a white t-shirt, black tights and its the same thing about the shoes as above, except guys usually wear canvas shoes (because leather ones are almost always pink) in black or white.

Tutus are for performances, silly.

A plain colored leotard, tights, and ballet shoes. Hair in a bun, and you can wear a skirt or shorts, if you want.

well it depends on the instructor and how strict they are with dress code. you might want to find that out. But, no you don't where a tutu, usually (for girls) it's a black leotard, pink tights, and ballet shoes and hair up in a bun. I'm not sure what it is for guys. Like I said you might want to find out before class starts.
