no matter how hard you try?

This has affected every aspect of my life: job hunting, the dating game, everything. No matter how hard I try, nothing I do seems to be good enough compared to the competition and I end up feeling inferior. If it doesn't change within the next year, I think I am going to give up on life completely.

Zipit: I wish competition wasn't a way of life, but it is. Employers, for instance, won't even give me an interview because there is always hundreds of candidates applying for each position, and there is bound to be someone a little more qualified than me. I can't get experience without someone willing to take a chance on me and I am not going to throw away any more money on my education until I receive SOME kind of return on the tens of thousands of dollars I wasted on my four-year college education.

loveblue: Thank you! Somebody finally understands! I am so sick of people saying things like "life is what you make it" when that obviously isn't the case in today's world. You can only do so much and even that might not be enough. Best of luck to you!

No, I often succeed at being trampled by the competition! Maybe your lot in life is being grass. Look if there were no grass around what would the animals have to feed on? Translated; if you find people like feeding on you, then you got a comodity everyone likes, capitalize on it.

Funny you asked this question. I just got passed over for a job I really, really wanted. I ended up as one of two top candidates, but the company decided to go with the other person. Now, things are getting pretty desperate. If I'm not able to get a job within the next few weeks, my family and I are facing homelessness.

This isn't the first time this has happened, and it's starting to get to me. This last job disappointment has really taken the wind out of my sails. There is always so much competition when applying for jobs, interviewing, etc. Despite everything I do to put my best foot forward, I, too, am beginning to wonder how will I ever outshine the competition?

Obviously, the only thing we can do is just keep trying. I may get pretty tired and weary of all of this, but I will never give up.

Sounds like you may be comparing yourself to other people way too much. No one can ever measure up to anyone else because we are all different. Don't look at life as trying to compete with someone, it should be about competing against yourself. You should be better than YOU were last year.

PS. Not I sad the fly, not me said the bee!

No. Competition has never bothered me. Guess I'm just lucky. But, don't give up, keep trying. Maybe you are going for the wrong sort of people. Things will get better.

Competition is the basis of life in general. Hence survival of the fittest. Get use to it, this is life.

Nope, cause if there was no competition in the first place, nobody would succeed.
