I would say that most men do feel protective and most women prefer it. However, not all.
Although some women don't want to be treated like ladies (nor act like one), if a man knows her well enough to treat her protectively, he would know if that is her desire or not and act accordingly.

Ok, regardless of how highly you regard this guy, he's still a guy. Guys are just inherently different than girls. He may act all nonchalant, but I'd still bet that he A. likes sex, B. possibly likes you that way, and C. would like to hear you talk about sex. It sounds like you guys are young, and I remember from when I was young how guys are. They are really tuned in to anything having to do with sex at all when they're that age. Maybe your friend thinks he'll get closer to you (even physically closer) by getting you to talk about what you've done. Even if he says he only wants to be friends, that's never stopped a guy from trying to get what he can.

I'm old fashion. That is my way of showing my respect for the lady.I don't have to be in a relationship with the lady,I will hold the door for any woman.I have a female friend that knows all she has to do is call me and I will help her with anything & yes we are just friends.I was raised that women & people got nothing but your respect & help if they needed it.Some woman don't like it & i do get nasty looks once in a while. But at least I can walk away feeling good about helping someone out.

I think that this old fashioned taking care of your girl is a desirable trait in men and the fact is it really is a dying trait.
I love it when my fiance does the following:
- opens the car door
- seats me at dinner
- walks me into the house
- takes in most of the groceries
- holds the bags while shopping (most times we share the load)
I am a very independent working 28 yr old but it makes me feel loved and cared for when he does those little things.

I liked having guy friends in college and later on inlife, not to have the sex thing out there and just be your self and have fun, yes they are protective and carry stuff, and is it so wrong to be old fashioned.

I sure hope that most guys don't think that way. If I need a guy to protect me, what am I taking martial-arts lessons for? (Yeah, I'm a feminist. What're you gonna do?)
