Hi have a 6 month old bosc monitor. He is going to grow between 4 and 6 feet and is already very fierce and viscious. I have handled him as much as possible but it doesn't seem to be working. I have another chinese water dragon and they get on fine, its just with people. Anyone have idea's as I dont want a 4, 5 or 6 foot biting lizard!! :(

Patience, patience, patience, otherwise he's just a pet to look at. I wouldn't suggest housing him with your water dragon, just for safety's sake. Beardies and water dragons and such typically start out and stay mellow, but you have a predator as a pet now. Instinct in reptiles is still very close to the surface, and this is something that people don't tend to realize. Some monitors can be acclimated to handling over time, but don't rely on it. One of my friends had a nile that he got as a hatchling, handled it every day, was just absolutely sweet and loving he thought, until it grabbed ahold of his leg one day and luckily he was wearing jeans... had a hole in his jeans afterward though. Just want to let you know that there is a good chance that he will ALWAYS be vicious. Good luck.

Oh, before I go, prekilled food might be a benefit, do away with his need to kill to eat. *shrug* It's an option.

All reptiles have a sort of micro organism of their saliva, yet in simple terms some species of Varanids have "poisonous" micro organism. Upon being bitten with the aid of this species, you may nevertheless elect to take the applicable movements to sterilize the wound to avert an infection.

It is unlikely that you can provide the environment in which a six foot long carnivorous lizard can thrive. You should not be keeping him. Research a sanctuary where he can be happy. You will do it if you truly respect him.

Keep handling but be gentle as possible they are sensitive as babies. "Listen" to it to find out where it sensitive parts are. Be presitant he apparently dose not respect you. Respect him though.
