if anyone was wondering i forgot to add that this is one of my top favorite books! Elizabeth is my favorite heroine! ive seen both the colin firth and keira knightley versions both of which i liked.
i think it statisfies the need for romance that we have in most disney movies w/ the happily ever after but it seems more realistic and more fun :P

Where do I begin?? Pride and Prejudice is my favorite book of all time...I love all Jane Austen's works, but this is the best. I am a hopeless romantic and a astute feminist, so some find it strange that I like Jane Austen since they revolve around women trying to get husbands, but I think Austen is a evolving feminist. All her heroines are strong-willed, intelligent women stuck in a society that values rank above all else. They look for something more than just marrying a rich man and they find true love in the process. Elizabeth Bennet is my favorite heroine and her interaction with the proud and bitter Mr. Darcy is wonderful. I adore that he secretly loves her and goes to the ends of the Earth to help her, but she still scorns him...until she learns the truth. The language is sometimes hard to understand and I would recommend watchin the 1995 A&E movie starring Colin Firth as Mr. Darcy. It is a faithful adaptation of the book and Colin Firth is so gorgeous!! The Keira Knightley version is also good.

did you see the recent movie with Keira Knightley? It kind of condensed the origianl story a little too much but it was a very romantic version. I think Keira made an nice Eliza B. too.

PS - Forgetme - the original title of Pride and Prejudice was "First Impressions". "Sense and Sensibility" is another book altogether about two sisters - one a wild romantic, the other pragmatic and proper. There was a movie done on that book staring Kate Winset and Emma Thomson.

I love this book and found it very funny. The manipulating and scheming between the Bennet sisters and their friends and families makes for a very good novel. Great stuff especially for the time it was written. It is subtle and witty.

edit - I think this book was originally going to be called First Impressions. Not 'Sense and Sensibility' as another poster suggested - that is a whole different novel.

Wonderful Story. I really enjoyed it. FYI, the original title of the book was supposed to be "Sense and Sensibility". If you see in the movie based on the book, the main character is reading a novel entitled "Sense and Sensability".

Bet you didn't know that about Jane Austin, huh?
