K and N filters are flow tested to increase air flow by around 25%. This results in more horsepower. Even better products are available from companies like Air Raid wher the flow is improved by as much as 100%. No one knows anything about your filter because it is not a name brand.

The all out K&N filter with new manifolding to the open filter is best particularly if it contains the boxed in housing with it. It's a lot of money though. If you have a stock un-modified engine I'd go to the K&N which fits your stock fresh air box. You will have more than enough flow. Your restriction won't be the filter it'll now be the entrance to the cold air box itself. I wouldn't alter it if it means cutting out the standard intake opening off and not being able to draw in cool outside air. Outside air contains more avalible oxygen. Hot under hood air contains much less. In todays world the engines run hot, the cooling fan pulls in hot air, the converters back up heat to the exhaust manifold and most of all, Detroit hasn't ever tried to bleed off any of this infurno. under the cramped hood. If you go with a K&N. Clean it once a year and carefully re-oil it and you'll be pleased. Other companys may claim to flow more air but demand a particulate removal chart. I feel comfortable that K&N's are safe and will adequately clean the air when used in the standard location. It's your vehicle it'll last years by regular service the best motor oil you can find and good oil filters. NAPA's are actually Wix. Purolater, AC Delco, are close seconds. Run away from all discount stores when buying filters.
