First of all you have to realize that long distance makes it more about the details than ever!
I suggest a care package. Begin with a lovely handwritten letter on nice stationary scented with your perfume. From there, add a few cards you have chosen for Valentine's (Funny, loving, etc).
Then add a box of chocolates and home baked goods are always great - shows a lot of thought. If you don't bake, is there anything at all you could make to send? Perhaps even a single scrapbook page with a collage of pictures and notes about the two of you.
You may add a well chosen bought gift at this point if you like but make it something romantic - either intimately (lingerie you will wear when next you meet) or lovingly (A scarf to keep them warm in your absence.) Top it all off with a HELIUM balloon anchored so it gently floats out of the box when first they open it.
Don't forget several tufts of red tissue paper to cover it all up and make it even nicer to open!

It is never to early to plan. If your loved one live within driving distance you could send him a gas card or even send a voucher for a plane ticket that could be used anytime. Along with those you could send candy, things you baked, photos, etc. I once sent a long distance boyfriend (through UPS) an overnight/duffle bag filled with travel sized toiletries, a robe, slippers, & goodies. So that when he did come to visit he would have everything already in a bag that he could just grab & go! Good luck!

Hi SoccerGal,
It's a great thing to be planning ahead...as the time is coming soon:)
Getting something online would be convenient...especially since they can send something directly to him.
How much do you want to spend? What does he like?
Many guys would love something like an Ipod if they don't have one already. Others like video games. Even a box of chocolates would fit a guy.
Just as long as you give him something, you'll warm his heart.

i tend to agree with CJ, however a single rose the day before is even better that way you dont get mixed in with all the other stuff on ST.Vs day .... in truth i think that ANY gift chosen by you with care is the REAL solution.

A surprise visit would be great but if you can't do that...try something creative to let him/her know that you're missing them. maybe a photo album or scrapbook with pics of the 2 of you...something sweet like that
