Because we haven't advanced far from the monkey-troupe.
Tribal displays, competitive mating displays, pecking order and status behaviours...
Everything's there, and human society is only the same writ large: fashion, conspicuous consumption and trivial role-models, all being amplified by mass media and advertising.
In monkey terms, I'm the grumpy un-groomed one at the edge of the pack, tolerated for his wisdom in certain practical areas.

I think when we read junky magazines or watch VH1, it's just a few minutes of fantasy and escape from our own lives. Sort of like reading a book or watching a movie. Most celebrities are famous because they have a genuine talent (most, not all) and everybody likes to be entertained, it's human nature.

It's sad is what it is. The same people that's fascinated with the celebrities most of the time has NO KNOWLEDGE of current events other that who's dating who...sad, sad, sad.

Yea it is a sickness, they have apparently no life of their own and must live it through others that they think have a more exciting life then theirs
