es? Are these items available for sale to the general public? How would one go about finding such a sale?

I've had people ask me the same question when we remodel our restaurants. By the time we start renovating most of the furniture is very worn out, out of style, damages etc. and is usually thrown away. However, I can say that my dining room suite is made from the best 'leftovers' and after refinishing looks great.

I'd suggest either contacting the retail store's main offices and asking for the names of their construction contractors or if you see a store being remodeled just go to the construction trailer and ask. For me when stuff like that 'disappears' it means that much less goes in the dumpster to the landfill and somebody is very happy.

If the renovation is a one time deal, like a Holiday Inn converting to a Marriot, then there may be one big liquidation sale at the place of orgin, sometimes if the stuff is in good condition, it will auctioned off at used furniture dealers, (sometimes, lower cost hotels buy it as these auctions). If the stuff is just passable it may end up being donated to the local salvation army or thrift store, or if there is reason such as burns or possible vermin, it may simply be thrown away.

Usually disposal of furniture and equipment has been prearranged before the public has even been informed of the sale. Often when a store is going out of business there are creditors that need to be paid so negotiations are started as soon as possible. Hotels will contact charities to send their beds etc to. If you have a particular business in mind, contact their administrative offices. If they are going out of business or remodeling, they will have someone responsible for disposals and procurement.

Sometimes some of the furniture is sold to the public, you should contact the hotel chain to find out what their policy is. Try to get a number or address for the main office.

Eddie Bauer in Norman Oklahoma just did that. They rented a big trash bin and threw away perfectly good doors, tables, everything. It was shockingly wasteful. I think the only way to find out is to have an in with the employees at the store so they tell you its happening. More shocking is that places like Home Depot and Walmart have huge crushers and crush perfectly good merchandise rather than donate it. They used to throw it in their huge dumpsters but dumpster diving at those stores became so popular now they crush it.

R u sure you want stuff that has been used to that capacity? You may as well go to the Salvation Army , goodwill, or thrift store. The stuff is sometimes nice, and hardly used, as opposed to hotel furniture. Who knows what and who has been on that. If you do buy it, put plastic on it like a value contientious senior citizen.

a lot of times they will have an auction to sell off all the stuff. Check your paper - they will post notices if they're going to do it.
Sometimes they just donate the stuff and get the write offs.

good luck!
