Last night I noticed something was wrong w/ her & I think her bottom hurts. She scoots it on the ground. I looked & didn't see anything stuck back there. I've heard dogs have glands that need to be expressed & they do that to pop them but wasn't sure. Her poop looks normal so I don't think it's worms or anything. She did this a month or so ago also & was fine after a day or so. She eats cow knuckles (the ones from Petsmart) & a friend thought maybe she had gotten a splinter from the bone but she's been eating them for years with no problems. Any ideas on why her bum hurts??? Just hate to take her to the vet if it's no big deal but want to make sure she's ok.

Yes, You should squeeze it every time you bath your dog or once a month... If not your dogs anal gland might burst and you ll have to take it to the vet for surgery. You can take you dog to the vet and have them show you how to do it your self. or just take him there to have it done every so often. It is very important to have this done. This is a true story about a friends dog::
My friend had a beagle maybe 12 years old and they never did it to there dog and she notice a hole beside the rectum and it was its anal gland that exploded and cause tha hole to rupture by it rectum....

To do so just place you fingers one each side of the rectum and squeeze untill you see a brownish yellow puss come out( DO NOT PUT YOUR FACE NEAR IT) The puss is kinda like our appendix( you know how they can explode) Well a dogs anal gland can too

It can be one or two things, she could have worms, so you could take her to the vet with a stool sample and find out, but most like its her gland that has to be drained. Which the vet can do also, it only takes a few minutes and its instant relief. Unfortunately with the gland problem they will usually have to be drained about every six months or so, at least once a year.

It is not common for a Golden to need the anal glands expressed, but it can happen. A trip to the vet is the best bet. It is prety messy and gross and not a great thing to do at home for the first time!!!!

sounds like anal glands. And they don't POP them, they are expressed. They are a sack that gets filled and the dog is unable to express them on their own. She could also have intestinal parasites. Just because you can't see the worms doesn't mean they do not have intestinal parasites. Take your dog to the vet!

Her anal gland may be clogged up. The vet can open it and let it drain very easily.
