Well rainbow colors mean a lot of things to a lot of different people. It's a sign of hope coming out of disparity, it's a sign of diversity, and it's often used to identify gay people or groups. So sometimes a gay person might hand such a symbol in his or her car. But somebody else might too. It could mean you like the colors, that you honor the gift of the lei, that you are GLBT, or that you are GLBT-friendly.

It's certainly possible, but there are some straight allies that wear rainbow stuff or hang stuff in support of their friends. I myself have a button that says "Hate is not a family value" with a rainbow surrounding the words and another oval shaped pin that has a rainbow with a black Parliament Hill in the middle. Both are pinned on my purse quite proundly. I also have a "I love my gay friends" button pinned to the collar of my jacket. And it's not lip service either. I marched in the local Pride Parade and I signed up to volunteer at a local GLBT organization.
Now granted, the amount of straight people who wear rainbow stuff is significantly smaller than those who are gay and wear rainbow stuff (though hopefully it's growing), but you shouldn't assume that all of them are gay.

I don,t think so,at least I have never heard that anyway...Is it suppose to be some kind of symbol? Of course people have all kinds of things hanging on their rearview mirrors..I see rainbow colored beads and the one in the car is not gay....Long time ago people put hula girls on their dash and all colors of dice, and that was just cool...

It may be, but it is more likely to be an indicator that the car owner simply has poor taste and/or could not get to New Orleans for Mardi Gras.

I live in Southern California, and evidently people here get them for graduations. I wish they wouldn't. I'm a lesbian, and it confuses the sh*t out of me.
