my laptop is about 6 years old, in great condition, but lacks an ethernet port. i use my usb to hook up my dsl, but i like to import photos from my camera, which requires the usb port. i have to take one out to use the other basically, and its a pain. is there a way to get an ethernet port, via a connector for the com port?

you can buy an Ethernet PCMCIA card, or pc card, or you just can buy a USB hub, (with 4 ports or more) and connect it to your existing USB port, this way you can connect more than one USB device . in the market you can find good USB hubs designed for laptops.

If you have a PCMCIA port, I strongly suggest that you use PCMCIA over a usb connection. PCMCIA works better as it is a stand-alone port while USB is shared by most hardware peripherals. However, if you need to have a cheaper solution, better get a USB HUB with 4 or 6 ports so that you could have more connections with your USB.

Depending on the Make & Model of your laptop, you may have a card slot, that you can purchase an Ethernet card for your laptop.

If you don't have a card slot, you can buy a USB Hub Port. They usually have 3-4 USB ports.

Need to know the Make & Model of your computer for further options........
