Although my son nurses equally from both, my left side recently dried up. I also regained my period at the same time (first period since pre-pregnancy). Is this a signal that my body isn't equipped to nurse much longer?

I have been trying to get my baby to suckle more often from the left, hoping to encourage milk production, but the only result is that my right becomes engorged and my baby pulls off in frustration because there is no milk.

I'd like to continue nursing from BOTH sides. What can I do, and why did this happen?

THANK YOU so much...

I would try to pump the left side while letting your son continue to nurse on the right side. if you pump simultaneously while letting your son nurse, the more likely you are to stimulate milk production in that breast because let down is easier. also there are some herbal supplements that you can take to increase or try to stimulate milk production. i would ask a lactation consultant or go to your GNC store where maybe they can help you. La Leche League is also very helpful with these dilemmas. Their website may be something that you would like to check out. Good luck with everything!

increase your water intake, hotpacks on the sided not producing, eat oatmeal 3-4 times a day, milk thistle is an herb that can help, also mothers milk tea is an herbal blend some have good luck with.
also try nursing one side for a block of 4 hours each one. then switch to 4 hours on the other. take away his pacifier and let him use you.
to prevent the frustration try a SNS, supplemental nursing system. you can use pumped milk in it, theres a little tube that tapes to the side of your breast near your nipple. that way he is getting something and wont get frustrated.
best of luck

You could try nursing on one side and pumping on the other. Then maybe if you got the production back up in the other breast he'd be more willing to nurse on both sides. There are many women who nurse one-sided though, so that is totally a possibility. (Are you worried about being lopsided or something?)

If you have an electric pump do that for 15 min after each feeding this should stimmulate your supply, Also feed him from the right side and then when he seems to falls asleep but just still wants to suck put him on the left this should give your mor stimmulation...there is also a prodcut your dr. can give you to help you with this if you fund yourself stuck
