Check the VIN number on the motor it's on the exhaust manifold (on the top of the motor where you plug the spark plug wires into the motor) it's like 16 letters long I think and usually starts with a letter, they are raised letters that are casted in the block and usually found on the drivers side back by the distributor. Then go to a book store and look up VIN numbers of motors (or you could buy the book) and it'll tell you what year and what vechicle it came out of.

Ask your Chevrolet truck dealer where the identifying marks are on both the block and cylinder head. Read them yourself and carefully copy them if you have safe ramps, jack stands or a lift. Your Chevy dealer can tell you exactly the the motor came from. In addition furnish your VIN. # to the dealer also. They'll tell you what motor actually came in your S-10. Actually you may have a car or truck V8 with throttle body injection.

Go to the Car lot. Look for a Truck like yours, the same year. Look under the hood and if the Motor looks the same as yours ask to find out the size and if it's the original Motor. If the answers yes then you know the size of your motor. If it's no, look at the S-10s until you find a motor like yours.
