If so, what equipment do I need? Will I need to drill a hole in my guitar? Or can i just remove the strap peg and use that?

Yes, I agree with having a pro do it.....it's not a very expensive conversion.
Also, there are "soundhole pickups" that you can purchase....they slide right into your soundhole and you can then plug in...they can be installed or removed in a matter of about 3 seconds....they actually work well.....but the cable hanging down from them can be annoying when you are playing.

In principle the answer is yes. You can transform your acoustic into an acoustic-electric. Even more you can do it by yourself if you have some hand-working skills. Is not difficult. Just be careful and plan slowly each step. Also you will have to do a small research of which kind of pick-ups you want. The piezo electrics are wonderful for an acoustic-electric. The thing that bother me in your question is that part of 'not using those acoustic pick-ups". Do you want to install electric pick-up's? If that is your intention the answer is probably not. The tension of the strings of an electric guitar is different that the one most of acoustic can stand. So put electric pick-ups and change to electric string would destroy your guitar.

Install pickups and a plug socket. Better yet, have a professional do it.
